When Charlotte first introduces about the story quilt to Handful, they reminded me of the quilts that my grandma made for me. Like Charlotte in the book, my grandma, who has the most remarkable talent in quilting, brought me the numerous hand-made gifts. I already have more than 20 quilted bags, pencil cases, blankets and cushions that I got from my grandma. All of these gifts from my grandma contain meaningful figures and shapes on them. The most memorable one is the cushion which portrays a girl with the dog, because it depicts the day when I first got my puppy as a birthday gift. In the Invention of Wings, Charlotte says that she keeps the history in her story quilt. For me, my grandma's quilt also functions as a memento which reminds me of the particular days. Every time I see the cushion, I remember the first day I got my dog and the happiness that I felt that time. The significance of the quilt for both Charlotte and me is how it reminds of us the past. It is interesting to see how the quilt can be the certain form of art, but also acts as a memory box. Like how quilt gathers several pieces of cloth--the collection of my memory becomes the history of my life.
